With passengers surpassing 26 million people a year, a new major international terminal was required at Vancouver International Airport.

Part of the largest expansion in over 20 years, the focal point of the Kasian Architect-designed new Pier D terminal is the indoor forest.

Three full-grown hemlock trees encased in a 15m [47 ft] high glass atrium provide an oasis in the midst of a busy international airport.

Stella was trusted by the design team to create a support system for the huge coned atrium; the requirement was that the support was to be as minimal as possible to create open sightlines into and through the atium.
